SEED SALE: Seed Packs

This post is a supplement to our Etsy store. I'll use this space to describe the seed and custom packs we have available.

I'll start of by describing our process and mindset when selecting the seeds that we have available. We have grown every variety of seed offered on our homestead selecting our favorites to add to the store. If we don't eat it, we don't sell it. The only exception would be some hotter pepper varieties. I do like to dry them and crush them into a powder to add a little flavor when cooking, so technically we do use them all, but in the interest of transparency our use of these are limited. As for everything else, we grow them often.

We are intent on packaging our seed ideally for the person or family that doesn't need 50 zucchini plants. We wanted to be a little different from most seed sellers and focus on variety while maintaining a reasonable price. Also, to keep our cost down, you won't see any elaborate packaging, just a sealed container and a label. All of our seed is open pollinated (seed can be saved year after year) and non GMO. Want to know a little secret? There are no GMO seeds available to the non-commercial buyer.

Our main seed pack contains 38 varieties (~3,300 seeds) that should cover most households and give them enough plants to satisfy an entire growing season. Included in this pack are 5 varieties of tomatoes, 6 varieties of peppers, 9 of our favorite herbs, and enough greens to keep salads going for most of the year. We have also included 3 of our favorite varieties of melons, as well as a few staples for those of you that like to ferment vegetables.

I have personally ordered seed online thinking that 40,000 - 60,000 seeds for $150 is a great bargain, until the reality of it hits you that 1/3 of the varieties you will never grow because you simply don't care for them, or there are too many seeds for a family to reasonably grow. Who needs enough seed for 2,000 heads of celery anyway? Those 50 asparagus seed you received in your survival pack, will be ready for harvest in 3 years.

This is not an attempt to bash competitors, there is a niche for everyone, we just happen to be in the camp of buy and grow what you are most likely to eat at a reasonable price, no fluff. What you see is what you get:
